Twice as many as last year had ‘more in common’ at Bankside Open Space’s Great Get Together Bankside!
Bankside Open Space Trust’s Great Get Together Bankside 2018 saw thousands come together in unity for a street party in memory of MP Jo Cox and her ‘more in common’ message.
The all-day event attracted twice as many people as last year, with over 9,000 people in attendance compared to 4,500 the previous year.
‘More in common’ was echoed throughout Bankside with communities coming together to enjoy loads of fun-filled events and festivities throughout the day. From ‘Bake Offs’ to ‘Bark Offs’ to street art and street feasts, the Great Get Together Bankside had something for everyone.
The street party was one of the biggest Bankside has ever seen, with delicious food being served on every corner. On Red Cross Way street food was lifted to banquet level with the Feast on the Street, a seasonal communal meal produced by street food experts Hodge Podge. The feast was just one of the highlights of the day, which also included Castellers of London’s human towers, dancing with Swing Patrol, the Headdress Parade led by the Pandemonium drummers, the Ultimate Bake Off, Wacky Races, Bark Off dog show and loads of wonderful live performances and music. The England football team’s victory early in the day brought cheerful fans out on to the streets, dancing, singing and learning to swing with Swing Patrol.
Thank you to all our generous sponsors and partners who made the Great Get Together Bankside possible.
Bankside Open Spaces Trust hopes that everyone had as much of a fantastic time as we did and we hope to see you all again next year for an even bigger celebration!
