Creating a new allotment garden for Borough (Plots for rent coming soon!)
For the past half year, Bankside Open Spaces Trust’s Matt Wilcock has been working with AllotMe and St George the Martyr Church, Borough, to plan a new Allotment Garden to benefit local people. AllotMe is a bit like Airbnb but for gardens – a sustainable garden-sharing marketplace that allows users to find a space to grow food in the city or renting out their gardens to those in need of the space to grow.
Thanks to a day of action with PwC's ESG & Sustainability volunteer team and AllotMe last Friday, there are now 13 new mini-allotments in the grounds of St George the Martyr. All ready to be rented out to local residents!
Matt says, “I’m most excited about the community beds that Bankside Open Spaces Trust staff will use to teach local schoolchildren and volunteers about growing their own!”
Revenues generated from renting these allotments will also fund our gardening in public spaces in the local SE1 area.
Thank you again to the volunteers from PWC and thank you to AllotMe's Founder Conor Gallagher for your vision and energy in making it happen.
