Graphic that reads: Free Activities Halloween Week at Living Space

This Autumn half-term at Living Space Community Centre we’re offering a vibrant programme of free activities for children and families which puts play, friendships and outdoor interaction front and centre.

From football training and arts and crafts to family lunches and social connection, our half-term schedule gives children and young people the chance to meet, play, and grow together in a welcoming, safe and fun environment.

Why play matters for children and connections

Research shows that play is not just about fun; it’s a vital part of how children develop socially, emotionally and physically. According to the charity London Play, “freely chosen, self-directed play supports healthy cognitive, social and emotional development.

Play supports diverse, thriving places & communities.” London Play Outdoor play in particular gives children space to explore with friends, learn how to cooperate, negotiate, and build their own worlds of interaction.

For example, one study found that children at innovative playgrounds engaged in significantly more moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and had more adult-led and peer-led active time than those in more conventional settings. One UK study found over a third of children don’t play outdoors after school and one in five on weekends, even though the benefits are becoming clearer.

By creating a place where children can meet, make friends, share playful moments, and simply be active together, we’re doing more than hosting activities. We are strengthening social ties, helping young people build confidence and giving local families access to opportunities for meaningful connection.

Why Living Space is the right place for it

Located in the heart of Waterloo, Living Space sits in a part of the city where access to green spaces, outdoor play or community-led activity isn’t always guaranteed. By bringing play and activity into this local community centre, we are filling a gap: enabling children and families to use a space designed for togetherness and movement.

Our half-term programme includes:

  • Dedicated children-only sessions (ages 5-14) of indoor games, crafts, popcorn, candyfloss and more.
  • Family “Lunch & Activities” slots where parents/carers join with children for food and fun.
  • Afternoon “Fun & Football Camp” (ages 8-16) with training, games, arts and crafts, theatre, karaoke, and digital games.
  • A Halloween-themed party to round off the week.

All of this happens in a bright, accessible venue that’s flexible and welcoming. The combination of physical activity, creative play and social time means children develop friendships, engage with peers outside school, and benefit from informal mentoring and support through play.
