A new communal garden for Lancaster House

Just in time for the sunshine! Thanks to funding from Southwark Council, Bankside Open Spaces Trust has been able to deliver a redeveloped communal green area, for Lancaster House residents.

We were asked by the residents to focus on the green area at the centre of the estate and their priorities were: a nice fast grassy area for play, more equipment for older children and improved planting.

We’ve laid a flat expanse of green, added a wooden ‘trim trail’ for older children, introduced more plants and seating and built a rain garden. Another play structure will be arriving soon.

The rain garden channels water from the roof of one the buildings on the estate, greatly reducing the impact of storm surges on London’s Victorian sewers. So it’s not just a pretty space!

To celebrate these changes we’ll be hosting a fun day before the end of the summer term so local people can enjoy the space and find out more about how they can get involved.
