BOST greet the Jo Cox Way riders at the finish line!
Our Chair of Trustees Tim Wood and Vice Chair Joseph Bonner were delighted to welcome home the Jo Cox Way cycling group from their 4th annual cycling ride from Yorkshire to London, totalling a whopping 288 miles spread over 5 days. Jo’s sister Kim Leadbeater joined cyclists on the last stage of the ride with her parents Gordon and Jean present at the finish line to greet the riders. The Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Sandra Rhule was also present to award the riders with their medals.
Vice Chair Joseph Bonner said: “It’s a delight for us in Bankside to provide the finishing post again this year for the Jo Cox Way. Building on momentum of our street party, The Great Get Together, these moments show how people from across the country really do have much more in common than that which divides us.”
The Jo Cox Way bike ride is an initiative to connect communities through the power of 2 wheels and celebrates the #MoreInCommon values of Jo Cox MP. The cycle ride represents the journey that Jo Cox took on behalf of her constituents to represent them in Parliament and this ride is a way of keeping Jo’s legacy alive and celebrating the countless selfless activities that people undertake in their communities.
Sunday's event was supported by one of Ms Cox's Labour colleagues, Bermondsey and Old Southwark MP Neil Coyle.
He said: "This event is an extension of the positivity that is Jo's legacy and as people are continuing to raise funds and want to show that we are a better society when we celebrate all we have in common”
A month on from The Great Get Together Bankside which saw over 12,000 attendees, we are thrilled to once again connect with #MoreInCommon and the Jo Cox foundation, joining Flat Iron Square to welcome home the 40+ cyclists at the finish line. A massive thank you to Flat Iron Square for providing the much-needed pizza & drinks at the finish line.
The ride raised more than £7,000 from a target of £10,000, with organisers hoping that more donations will arrive in the coming days. Show your support here: https://bit.ly/2xQf8HH
