Wet Potatoes - a creative journey

Wet Potatoes? Creativity? Yes, you heard us right! This month we were delighted to host the Wet Potatoes Art Exhibition in celebration of a truly remarkable journey of creativity, community, and connection.
First up, we have to address the Wet Potatoes - it’s simply the name of the very first art collective grown out of one of our programmes and is inspired by their use of natural materials to make art, and that includes wet potatoes!
Exploring anxiety through nature
The collective came together at a partnership programme with Psychosynthesis Trust exploring how nature can help us understand and manage anxiety.
Following the successful 10-week programme at Crossbones Graveyard, some of our participants felt inspired to keep meeting. One of them, Sue, shared her expertise as an art teacher and together with our Community Engagement facilitator Mus, they used nature and green crafting to explore their creativity and grow their confidence.
We’re so grateful to the participants for taking us on this creative journey, and to City Bridge Foundation and The National Lottery Community Fund for supporting our work in the community. This support has enabled us to engage under-represented groups such as neurodivergent individuals with the aim of building people’s skills and confidence so that they can go on to participate in our other volunteering activities in the future.
Watch this space
What’s next for our Wet Potatoes? Well, as an established art collective they are working on a revamp of our Red Cross Garden noticeboard and will also play a key role in our nature-inspired art workshops at Bankside Open Spaces Festival in June – watch this space!
