The Mike Barnato Award

This year, Marlborough Sports Garden launches a very special award to celebrate participants taking part in our afterschool sports programme – the Mike Barnato Award.

This award has been created in remembrance of a former trustee of Bankside Open Spaces Trust, who sadly passed away in March 2022. Mike was an inspiring business coach, martial arts enthusiast and supportive colleague and friend.

Our Mike Barnato Award seeks to capture his positive approach to life and will be presented to a participant or participants of our afterschool sports programme who best represent the characteristics Mike valued so highly in his personal and professional life and through his volunteer work:

• Encouraging and inspiring others

• Being self-motivated

• Having a passion for sport

The award will be judged by Marlborough Sports Garden’s Activity Coordinator and will be presented during the autumn term of the afterschool sports programme. The award itself is a sustainably sourced trophy, plus a £20 sports voucher. The trophy will be returned after a year to be passed onto the next year’s winner.

Through the annual award we aim to honour the memory of Mike and celebrate his positive contribution to Bankside Open Spaces Trust.
