Hello to our new CEO

We are pleased to announce the appointment of our new CEO Charlotte Gilsenan. Charlotte joins Bankside Open spaces Trust from Greenhouse Sports where, as Centre Director, she oversaw the launch of this £15m state of the art community sports centre.

Charlotte has a wealth of experience in the charity sector with 14 years’ at senior management level. She also brings a depth of knowledge in the areas where we work, both as a local Southwark resident and having previously helped to run Cambridge House, a Southwark-based centre fighting poverty and social injustice.

Charlotte says of her appointment, “I feel extremely fortunate to be the CEO at Bankside Open Spaces Trust, having a love of open spaces and a passion for tackling social injustice and catalysing change. I moved to Southwark 18 years ago and have lived in the area ever since.

“The Trust provides opportunities for people to take ownership of their space, increasing social interaction and having a positive effect on their mental wellbeing.  From the sports facilities at Marlborough Sports Garden to the historic interest of Crossbones and the open space at Waterloo Green, there really is an opportunity for everyone to get involved.

“I am looking forward to working with staff, volunteers and trustees to lead Bankside Open Spaces Trust in growing sustainably into the future, providing additional green spaces and opportunities for everyone.”

Tim Wood, Chair of Bankside Open Spaces Trust, added, “Charlotte’s appointment marks the start of a new phase for Bankside Open Spaces Trust as we look to strengthen our work with the community and increase the reach of our volunteering and educational programmes. Charlotte brings extensive experience to the role and I, along with the whole team, look forward to working with her as the organisation approaches its 20th year.”
