We’re proud to be a Living Wage Employer at Bankside Open Spaces Trust, and this week, during Living Wage Week, it feels even more important to reflect on what that means. Living Wage Foundation)
Beyond the obvious: paying people fairly so they can live with dignity, it’s about creating a workplace where people want to stay, feel valued, and bring their best.
When staff feel secure, supported and respected, we see stronger retention, more diverse applicants, and vibrant team culture: all of which help us deliver our mission of inclusive, sustainable green‑spaces for SE1.
We’ve seen how paying the real living wage helps open doors. It means someone who might otherwise move on for a few pence more can stay, share their local knowledge, build relationships with volunteers and community groups, and become part of our story. And when we attract people from every background, ages, cultures, experiences, we strengthen our entire organisation.
It also sends a clear message to our supporters, partners and visitors: that we care about people and place equally, and that our values are more than words. Being accredited and acting on it supports our reputation, helps us recruit better, and builds trust across our network.
So, during this Living Wage Week, we honour the difference it makes, not just to individuals, but to teams, communities and the spaces we bring to life together.
Thank you to every colleague, volunteer and partner who shares this journey.
