Crossbones Graveyard and Garden of Remembrance will be closed from today, Wednesday 24th June, until Friday 26th June inclusive.
Due to the current severe heatwave, we have taken the decision to close the garden to protect the safety and well-being of visitors and volunteers. Please do not travel to the site during this period.
We expect normal opening hours to resume as usual next week.
While the garden is closed, we want to ensure our community stays safe in this extreme weather. Here is how you can beat the heat and stay well:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which cause dehydration.
- Keep Cool Indoors: Close curtains on windows that face the sun to keep your home cooler. Turn off unnecessary lights and electrical equipment.
- Avoid the Peak Sun: Stay out of the sun between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM when the UV rays and temperatures are highest.
- Dress Appropriately: Wear loose, lightweight, and light-coloured cotton clothing. Always apply high-factor sunscreen and wear a hat if you must go outside.
- Check on Others: Keep an eye on isolated neighbours, elderly relatives, and pets who may struggle to keep cool.
Thank you for your understanding. Please stay safe, look after one another, and we look forward to welcoming you back next week.
