Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST) is delighted to announce Aisha Bazoune as the recipient of the 2026 Mike Barnato Award
Presented annually at Marlborough Sports Garden, the Mike Barnato Award recognises a young person who embodies the qualities Mike Barnato championed throughout his life: encouraging and inspiring others, being self-motivated, and having a passion for sport.Â
Aisha takes part in BOST’s free after-school sports programme, which provides local children with opportunities to participate in activities including football, basketball, cricket, beach volleyball, beach tennis, dance and boxing.
She was nominated not only for her enthusiasm for Beach Tennis (delivered in partnership with Deuce Beach Tennis), but also for the support she provides to her family. As the strongest English speaker in her household, she often acts as a spokesperson for her mother and siblings, while also helping her younger brother stay focused and engaged during sessions.Â
These qualities, combined with her positive attitude and willingness to support others, made Aisha a worthy recipient of this year’s award.
Speaking about the award, Aisha said:
“I feel really good about being nominated for the Mike Barnato Award because I wasn’t expecting it. I really enjoy the sports here because the coaches make the sessions engaging and fun. It reminds me of the fun I have at school, but through sport. I really love coming here, and I’m very happy to have been nominated for the award.”
Aisha’s mother, Valentina Bazoune, added:
“This was our first year coming to Marlborough Sports Garden, and it has been fantastic for both me and my children. I’m really pleased with the range of sports available and it has been great to see my children enjoying the activities they take part in. I also really value what the Mike Barnato Award represents, and I’m very proud of Aisha for being nominated this year.”
The award was presented by Katy Barnato, Mike Barnato’s daughter, who said:
“I’m really pleased to present the award to Aisha this year. She is a very deserving winner and represents the spirit of the Mike Barnato Award well. The award encourages children to take part in sport, and I hope more young people continue to have access to opportunities like the ones provided by BOST at Marlborough Sports Garden.”

The Mike Barnato Award was established in memory of Mike Barnato, a long-standing supporter of BOST and passionate advocate for community sport. Through the award, his legacy continues to inspire young people at Marlborough Sports Garden to participate, support others and make a positive contribution to their community.
